Free web-based strategy game. I got sucked in. I'm in Universe 24.

Every time you choose to do something, e.g. build a mine, it'll take some amount of resources and real time (like 1:48 for a metal mine I'm building now). Um... eventually, there's... intergalactic conquest or something.

Also, the alliance I joined with my friends is ISB. For some reason, though, I spawned in a completely different galaxy...

ranked 2/7 in my alliance (I was 6/7 for a while, and have mostly been around 4-5/7)

I started a colony in a nearby system. It'll be my nearby mine. The next step is to start a colony near my friends. My planets so far: Megalon (homeworld) and Gigan. Suggestions for the next one? If you don't get the theme, you give me a cookie.

Pillaging neighbors has surpassed mining as my primary source of income. It's amazing how many players have skimpy defenses and let their resources pile up. Maybe they're just away for a few days or something.

Amazingly, I haven't been raided yet. I have some basic defenses, but nothing fantastic, and my fleet is usually abroad, ransacking the community. Maybe 3-4 of the guys in my alliance have been attacked, 2 successfully (i.e. their defenses were destroyed and the enemy stole their resources).

I will be victorious yet! I'm saving up for Hyperspace Drive 4 so I can build battleships, and just hoping I won't get plundered while I save up.

I posted a thread to Ars Technica (http://episteme.arstechnica.com/eve/forums/a/tpc/f/39309975/m/313006161831/p/1), too, and 61 people have joined the Ars alliance in 2 days. (I'm in another alliance with my friends, ISB. I lead the next guy in points by 50%, but I think I want to scale back so I'm not alone in escaping n00b protection at 5,000 points.)
